Laura May founded Nagnata in 2015, drawing on her study of yoga and meditation, and designs it with her sister Hannah Gibbs, a textile artist and photographer. The name comes from a Sanskrit word meaning nakedness. The label works out of Byron Bay and Sydney.
Nagnata makes knitwear for movement that crosses over into everyday clothes, released under its "Movements Not Seasons" idea rather than a seasonal calendar. Its genderless line, SAMA, arrived in 2020. The main fibres are GOTS-certified organic cotton and merino wool, including a seamless knit developed with The Woolmark Company, and many pieces are knitted to shape to avoid offcut waste.
